Joint Anti-Doping Work at the Liebherr 2017 World Table Tennis Championships

03.06.2017

In collaboration with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and German Table Tennis Association (DTTB), the National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA) organizes and conducts all doping controls during the Liebherr 2017 World Table Tennis Championship to be held from 29 May - 5 Jun 2017 in Düsseldorf, Germany. In addition, NADA Germany carries out the prevention work together with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), ITTF and DTTB.

"We are pleased that the International Table Tennis Federation has delegated the organization of doping controls during the World Championships in Düsseldorf to NADA as an independent body. Equally, the cooperation in the area of prevention is an important component to raise awareness for the transfer of knowledge about the doping problem and serves the protection of all athletes", said Dr. Andrea Gotzmann, CEO of NADA Germany.

"ITTF is extremely committed to keep table tennis a doping-free sport and firmly believes that all table tennis players have the right to compete on a level playing field. For these reasons, we are delighted about the joint work between our Sports Science and Medical Committee and NADA, which has been greatly facilitated on the operational side by the DTTB as Organizing Committee here at the Düsseldorf Messe", said Mr. Thomas Weikert, President of the International Table Tennis Federation.

"To protect the sport and the athletes, the fight against doping is important and elementary. Table tennis stands for clean sports. That is why we actively support the activities of NADA, not just here at this World Championships", concluded Michael Geiger.

For the first time in a major international table tennis event, ITTF will benefit of the NADA paperless system used for several years in Germany for recording doping control forms. In addition, NADA and ITTF will together educate all participants with NADA's and WADA's multilingual prevention programs including NADA's "TOGETHER AGAINST DOPING" and "GIVE EVERYTHING, TAKE NOTHING", thus setting a sign for all clean athletes for clean performance.
